- When Workman shot "Dutch" Schultz in Newark, the hit man (a drug addict) went through the victim's pockets, looking for something to steal. In a Mafia hit, nothing is to be taken. This gives the clear message that the intention is assasination, not robbery. For violating this rule, Workman was brought up on Mob charges.

- The father of "Crazy" Joe Gallo was in the kitchen putting the finishing touches on a fine Italian supper. The places were set in the dining room. His sons -- all in good cheer -- came in the door. The father embraced Joey, congratulating him on a job well done. The young men sat down to eat. While the father was opening a bottle of wine, the phone rang. The father answered, only saying "Hello." Less than a minute later, he put the phone down and walked over to Joe. The father began to slap Joe across the face, yelling out insults. Joey Gallo shot the wrong man.
- "Crazy" Joe Gallo wanted to start WWIII in the streets of Brooklyn. To that end, he acquired a cache of military weapons. One night, Joey Gallo aimed an anti-tank gun at an apartment building and fired. Joey expected to see the entire building come tumbling down. But, anti-tank guns don't have an explosive charge. These weapons are just hardened steel. They work on the principle of kinetic energy. When the metal projectile -- travelling at an extremely high speed -- hits a tank, the armor is transformed into molten shrapnel. There's no such effect on a stone building. The missile punched a four-inch square hole in the front, flew through the interior, punched a four-inch square hole in back, and finally just fell harmlessly to the ground in the back yard.
- In the street outside of the bar at First and Jackson in Hoboken, an independent operator -- a "cowboy" -- pulled a gun on Martin "Motts" Casella, demanding money. Casella said, "Don't you know who I am? Do you know what you are doing?" The robber replied that if "Motts" didn't hand over the cash quickly, his corpse would be in the gutter. Soon afterwards, it was the gunman's corpse that was found floating in the Hudson.
- In an attempt to murder all five heads of the New York Families, a malcontent armed with a machine gun burst into a meet. The gun jammed. The bosses turned on the would-be killer, beating him senseless.
